Cochin is the collection of tiny islands and peninsulas along the shore of the Arabian Sea. It has a glorious history ruling under foreign invaders like Arabs, British, Dutch, Portuguese, and Chinese. Cochin in Kerala is the biggest port city and it is the best place to visit on vacations. Cochin is the symbol of Colonial India by using seashore for trading by foreign invaders.

The best ever place to be visited here is Mattancherry Palace, Kochi Fort Beach, and Indo-Portuguese Museum. Here adventurous things like scuba diving are also available.

Fort Kochi Beach

Fort Kochi Beach is a very beautiful place for pleasant atmosphere and weather. It was located on the western coast of India and well known as the “Queen of the Arabian Sea.” The main attraction of this beach is its historical fort which is the correct example of the European architecture. The most attractive festival that takes place here is the annual Kochi festival on the white sands of the Fort Kochi Beach.

Here, New Year is celebrated as Kochi Carnival it is the popular festival in Kochi beach. This beach is the perfect place for foodies to enjoy the delicious food. This beach is one of the top places to visit in Kerala and not to miss attraction.

The best activities can do here is the boat cruise, beach walk, fishing, dolphin sighting etc. When you visit this place never forget to take a boat ride through the backwaters which separate Ernakulam from the Fort Kochi and Mattancherry. The best time to visit is in between October to March.

Mattancherry Palace

This Palace was constructed by Portuguese as early as 1557. This Palace is one of the most desirable places to be visited in Cochin and popularly known as Dutch Palace. This Palace reflects the style and architecture of traditional Kerala house.

Mattancherry Palace has a courtyard in the center which is occupied by Bhagavati temple as the protective deity of Kochi community. There are two more temples inside the Palace known as Shiva and Krishna. The palace was filled with different collections of frescoes and paintings covering the walls of the palace. The gardens and lawns are well-maintained and restored for tourists.

Timings: 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM every day except Friday. The Palace will be closed in between 1 pm to 2 pm for lunch.

Entry Fee: Just two rupees per head.

Indo-Portuguese Museum

This museum was built by former Bishop Joseph Urethra and blends the mixture of Indian and Portuguese culture in a sequence. The Indo-Portuguese Museum was the best example of the culture and architecture of India and Portuguese. This museum was divided into 5 wings. Each wing exhibits Furniture, Treasure, Civil Life, Cathedral, and Procession.

When you visit this Museum never miss the artifacts like Processional cross made of silver and wood, Coat of Arms of the Francis, and the Indo-Portuguese Monstrance.

Timings: 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. It will remain closed during Monday and Public holidays.

Entry Fee: 10Rs for Indians and 25Rs for Foreigners. The first Thursday of month entry will be free.

Hill Palace

The Hill Palace is the memorable monument of Maharaja of Kochi and constructed in 1865 and comprised of 49 buildings. Hill Palace is the best Palace in Cochin which reflects the heritage and archaeological artifacts of Maharaja. It is also one of the best heritage museums in Cochin.

The major attractions here to be seen are the modern-day art gallery, Kudakkallu (Tombstone), Thoppikkallu (hood stone), and lateral & granite memorials. Other major attractions are cut armaments of the Stone Age and wooden temple replicas. You can see the Harappa and Mohenjodaro Indus Valley Civilization here.

Timings: 9 AM to 12 PM and 2 PM to 4:30 PM every day except Monday.

Entry Fee: 30 Rs per head.

How to Reach Cochin, Kerala

You can reach here by train, road or Air. Cochin has its own International Airport. If you prefer travelling by train then Kochi Railway Station you can arrive. Also, you can do the Maharaja Express Booking which is world famous luxury train in India. If you want to arrive by road then lots of cities of South India connects Cochin easily.
