Many of you will not have heard of Rosacea before. It is a troublesome skin condition that results in redness of the face and this can advance to produce bumps, often filled with puss. This is a condition that affects around 15 million people here in the US and is particularly prominent in people with pale skin.

The average age of diagnosis is between 30 and 50 years of age. Almost always it is misdiagnosed as acne in the majority of sufferers. There are also psychological effects for sufferers who worry about their appearance. In a recent survey, it was found that 9 in 10 people with the condition had low self confidence and low self-esteem because of Rosacea.

Other side effects of Rosacea include irritable eyes, dry blotchy skin and severe itching. Nobody knows what causes Rosacea, but it is thought that it is a combination of the environment and genetics that results in its manifestation.

How can Cannabis help?

It can be hard to identify from first glance how cannabis can help patients with Rosacea. Because cannabis has a high concentration of anti-oxidants, as well as the beneficial anti-inflammatory properties, this helps reduce facial inflammation and in turn reduce the redness of the skin. Cannabis is also very beneficial for reducing stress and anxiety, so it can also help with the mental aspect of Rosacea.

It was back in 2013 when a study published by the University of Bonn in Germany found that THC contained within the cannabis helps reduce inflammation. The researchers confidently predicted that cannabis has an important part to play in providing a long-term treatment method for a wide variety of inflammatory skin conditions – not just Rosacea.

There is a CA based cannabis topical supplier, called “Sweet ReLeaf” who have had anecdotal success of customers using cannabis topicals to treat Rosacea. The founder of the company said that they hope more people will turn to this treatment method, on the back of the success of his other customers. Unscented topical creams are probably best, because the essential oils which produce a fragrance can be too much for a lot of Rosacea sufferers skin.

Have you used any topical cannabis treatments for your Rosacea? If so, let us know. It’s also possible to make the creams yourself. For more information on how to do this, check out this article – https://cannabis.net/blog/medical/how-to-make-homemade-cannabis-skin-cream-and-lotions.
